According to modern science, skin is the largest organ of the body and performs the functions like touch, sensation, temperature, pain, pressure, etc. Skin actually is a reflection of hidden happenings within our body. It acts as a first line defence to the environmental attack.

Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine. Sushruta Samhita is one the oldest Samhita of ayuveda. Acharya Sushruta mentioned skin as ‘Twacha’ – as a ‘Sparshanendriya’, which is one of the Gyanendriyas(sensory organs).

According to Ayurveda Twacha is the site of Tridoshas like:-

Vata Dosha

Touch sensation and circulation is related to Vyan Vayu. Excess Vata Dosha leads to roughness, dryness and darkness of the skin.

Pitta Dosha

Bhrajak Pitta is related for giving colour and lustre or glow to the skin. Disorder of Bhrajak Pitta leads to excess yellowness of skin.

Kapha Dosha

Kapha is responsible for moisture or Snigdhata to the skin. Kapha Represents whiteness of skin.

Sweda

Sweda is one of the mala(excretory substance) which comes through skin And maintains moisture balance of the skin.
